Welcome to Hop Skip and Jump. We are looking for new members to join our Management Committee and hope that when you have studied our web site http://www.hopskipandjumpcotswold.org.uk/ you will be interested in helping us with the management of the Cotswold Centre.
Hop Skip and Jump Cotswold is part of the Seven Springs Foundation and is the prototype for centres in Bristol and in Turkey and for new ones planned for Swindon and Sussex. Each of these entities is a separate charity incorporated as a company limited by guarantee of which Elizabeth Hurley is President and Earl St. Aldwyn patron.
The Foundation is the central organisation and holds ultimate control of each centre. Nevertheless the Management Committee of each centre is largely autonomous and is responsible for the running of the centre, for its smooth and efficient operation and for ensuring that there are sufficient funds for the centre’s activities. Directors’ and Officers’ liability insurance is provided. The Foundation will provide experience, advice and information to each centre. There is a full time Chief Executive who attends Committee meetings.
At Hop Skip and Jump Cotswold we have a very small and efficient Management Committee of volunteers each of whom brings a different field of expertise. Our Treasurer is a partner in Hazlewoods Accountancy Firm. A partner in Charles Russell Solicitors oversees the building and property aspects. Other members include a parent representing the centre’s users, a retired nursery school owner, an ex-London Magistrate and an author. The day-to-day running of the centre is the responsibility of a full-time salaried Manager who is in charge of a team of play workers. The number of children and their carers using the centre fluctuates over the year but averages from between 600-900 a month.
The Committee meets usually once a month on a Friday morning. It is a hugely important and rewarding job which inevitably carries a fair degree of responsibility. It need not necessarily be particularly time consuming but the position does demand a dedicated commitment. Hop Skip and Jump Cotswold was founded 25 years ago to meet the pressing need for a safe haven for children with physical, emotional and learning disabilities where they could play happily and have fun. It is now an established and important part of the community, answering the desperate need for respite care with huge potential to develop further.
If you would like to know more about the Centre or the Management Committee do please contact the centre Manager, Faye Cresswell, on 01242 870438.
